If you are going to buy only one handgun for self defense, the hammerless revolver may just be the gun for you.
With the majority of defensive shootings taking place within 8 feet and with less than 3 rounds fired in under 2 seconds, the Ruger LCR was created for sudden, close quarter engagements, where worry-free functionality is of paramount importance. Revolvers are great choices for self-defense. With less moving parts, a good revolver will function under the most extreme of conditions that would render a semi auto pistol into a single shot, and this hammerless Ruger is made to be ultra-reliable. Like most double action revolvers, there’s nothing more to worry in the heat of a crisis than simply drawing and pulling the trigger until the threat is stopped. Almost nothing will keep this revolver from functioning until its empty.
Ruger LCR in .38 special makes a excellent choice. While lightweight, it is capable of shooting +p defense rounds, yet allowing the owner train with more forgiving standard pressure cartridges. The frame is actually only partly composite while the part that holds the barrel, cylinder, and receiver are aircraft aluminum. The internal components like the springs, firing pin, trigger assembly are all housed in the grip frame and are well supported and plenty robust. When I had a chance to actually shoot the LCR, my curiosity turned to enthusiasm. Since then, having shot several different guns of both the .38 Special and .357 LCR models, I have become even more impressed.
The LCR not only handles like a dream, it hides well in a pocket or a purse because it has that same general shape. The hammerless frame ensures a snag-free draw every time. Personally, I forget I’m even carrying when I conceal my Ruger .38 in a IWB holster due to only being 13.5 ounces.
Like the S&W J-frame revolvers, the models it was meant to compete with, an excellent self-defense tool.
The LCR is competes with the S&W J-frame revolvers. While I’m a big fan of those Smith & Wesson models, I found the the LCR had a buttery smooth, easy to control trigger as good or better than any S&W. Good trigger control is critical with a small gun and makes a world of difference for accuracy at longer distances. All for less than the cost of the S&Ws.
If you’re considering a concealed carry handgun for yourself or loved-one, I’d highly suggest looking into the Ruger LCR family of hammerless revolvers. The friendly, knowledgeable staff at Next Level Armory is here to help. Stop by and see us today.
